The Cube interpretation
Tuesday I posted a Sufi game called "The Cube" and promised answers to the psychoanalytical questions. Here you go, the interpretations of the puzzle will follow my answers:
My cube takes up about a third of the width of the landscape and is equally above and below the horizon. It is made of stone, like the pyramids in Egypt. It is quite reminiscent of a pyramid (but square not triangular).
My ladder is made of sturdy wood and leans against the cube, allowing access to the top. The ladder looks like the old-fashioned wooden ladders you might see in a movie.
My horse is not too far away, but not too close either. It is dappled on the butt, I guess you would call it a roan (?) with great ginger-brown coat and mane otherwise. It is strong and swift and free but nearby. It varies between grazing in what grass there is by the cube and resting in its shade, and galloping around having fun.
The storm is in the distance but again, not too far away. it looks like the sky in the background, probably 5-10 miles away, is rolling dark clouds with the occasional lightning. It is like a Kansas thunderstorm, if you have ever seen one. It isn't raining on the cube, ladder and horse yet, but it looks like it could head this way any minute. The air is electric.
My flowers are like little buttercups, yellow and white, near to the ground. They are near they cube too, on the side where the sun shines most. They are also scattered about the landscape, but the greatest number of them are bunched together nearby.
Okay, for the interpretation, keep reading...
The cube is a symbol of how you see yourself. What material was your cube made of? Something strong, or ephemeral or organic or cold? accessible or impenetrable?
The ladder is a symbol of how you see your friends. Was the ladder touching your cube? did one support the other?
The horse is a symbol representing how you see your lover. Was your horse real? A toy? Moving or still? Alive? Calm or upset?
The storm represents what you perceive to be the trouble or conflict currently in your life. Was your storm near or far? Dangerous or benign? Scary?
And finally, the flowers are symbols of your "children" (real or conceptual). Were there many flowers? Were they big or small? Were they well taken care of, or let go to grow wild?
I have known people with glass cubes, with cubes that were big rooms and had a door, with metal framework cubes that were like buildings without the walls built. Ladders have been lying nearby, metal or wood or rope, perpendicular to the ground with no support, and broken. Horses have been real or stuffed, giant stallions or minature ponies or handheld toys. flowers have been a lush oasis, sparse scruffy grass, roses. I think the fact that this is set in a desert affects the flower thing, personally, but I guess that says something about me too.

I saw TwilightCafé: the cube ages ago, and I did do the exercise in my head. Didn't write it down. Bad me. So here it is: The desert is sandy. Pretty quiet. More sky than sand. And a lone palm... [Read More]

This is interesting -- REALLY interesting -- and eerily accurate.
I am having another don't stop-can't stop-AAAARRRRGH! kinds of days, but I will get my version posted either late, late, late tonight or tomorrow.
Great exercise -- thank you!

Ok, my cube had a silvery/metallic surface and was rotating on one corner like a top. the ladder was to the right of the cube standing upright without support, made of rustic wood (like tree branches) and got narrower as it got taller. My horse was brown with a white stripe down its nose, and was just standing to the right of the ladder with a saddle and bridle on, waiting for something. The storm was a dark ominous thunderstorm with lightning, way off in the distance and wasn't affecting the other objects at all. The flowers were a few small white daisys in front of the horse.

My horizon was a little above center. The desert was sandy with patches of grass throughout. My box was made of the same material as a theatre box that they use for sets, wood, and painted black. It was in the left side of the picture and closer to the forefront. It was about medium size, but looked big in the picture because it was close to the onlooker. My ladder was also wooden. It was a light brown and very sturdy. It was leaned up against the cube and went beyond the clouds into heaven. My horse was big and black with a white blaze down its forehead. It was to the right of teh cube and ladder. It also had white ankles on all four legs and was walking toward me. There were dark clouds in the distance and rolling thunder could be heard. It was not affecting any of the objects in the scene. There were patches of bright wild flowers in my desert, mainly the patches were around the cube and the horse. The flowers were bright pink and beautiful.
