sickday fun and games

I believe the holidays are truly over, folks. Posting and traffic on my favorite sites has crawled today, the one day I was hoping most to be amused during the times I was actually awake. Orionoir has a lovely stream-of-consciousness piece that twisted my brain around a bit. Over at Incoherent Babbling I found an interview. Kristi came to my rescue on a bored sick-day and interviewed me. Here are the results, and the rules at the bottom.

1. If you could be one character from literature, who would you be?
That's hard for me because I love so many books. At one time I would have said Alice (THE Alice) but now it might be Promethea. While it is a comic, it is based on a literary character/blend of characters... I can't think of any character in "the classics" I would like to be. China Bayles is a Texas lawyer turned sleuth in Susan Wittig Albert's books. And there's always Anita Blake from the Laurel Hamilton books...Did you say *one* character? :)

2. If you could rewrite the ending of any book, play or movie, which one
would it be? What would you change?

That Anita Blake series by Laurel K. Hamilton. I would have her pick Richard over Jean Claude. I am not sure it would have worked for the whole thing, but I was sorely disappointed in her for doing that. Actually it was probably the way she did it more than anything. She should have made a conscious decision first and let them both know rather than sleeping with JC. I just have a thing for Richard, I think. Male teachers...tres cool. Anyone remember "Don't Stand So Close To Me"? :)

3. What are your favorite things to do on a rainy day?
Sit inside and read. Or sit on the porch and watch the rain. Or occasionally walk barefoot on sticker-free grass.

4. What's the worst date you've ever had?
I went on so few "official" dates...hmmm. A homecoming dance once, I was asked by someone I would not have gone with but my mom had this rule about going with the first one who asks or not going at all. Dammit. So I went and it was eh. I have not had any psycho dates.

5. If you could visit any one city, which city would you most want to
visit?
This is really tough for me, there are so many. Right now I have a hankering to visit New Orleans. I have wanted to go there for some time. Boston is always nice, but I have seen it and not NOLA.

THE RULES!
1 - Leave a comment, saying you want to be interviewed.
2 - I will respond; I'll ask you five questions.
3 - You'll update your journal with my five questions, and your five
answers.
4 - You'll include this explanation.
5 - You'll ask other people five questions when they want to be interviewed.

You'd be Anita Blake? You are way tougher than me. I stopped reading a few books back, but IIRC the main characters go through the wringer. Did Anita decide on a boy already? I mean, for certain sure?

I would love to have the nerve and know-how Anita does. Am I as tough as she is? No way. But I would love to be.

I made it only through book 5 so far, the book in which she runs off with JC. At that point I put down reading a book in that series every day or two and moved to her Merry Hall book 1, A Kiss of Shadows. Loved it too, but she is softer than Anita.

I'd like to be interviewed!

...I liked prometha for the first tpb :^)...and then mr.moore went off on one :^)...

Anita and Richard... can't leave each other alone. And Anita and JC don't immediately turn into a super-tight couple. It's definitely worth continuing the series, especially as the next book is due next month.

I identify strongly with Richard for reasons both true and imagined... and there are other resemblances, some painful. He does grow up a lot, but some of it is hard to watch.

Meanwhile, I would be interested in an interview...

Geez! I can't believe I forgot to say:

I hope you are feeling better!

Posted by: Soulless at Jan 23, 2004 6:27:26 AM

Keith, Soulless, interviews on the way soon (after I get to work, soon). What fun :)And thanks for the wellness wishes!

billy! I loved tpb 2 and 3 of Promethea! Granted, AM is showing off his occult knowledge, but I thought he did it well. I haven't been keeping up with the individuals, though. Promethea is one I wait for the tpbs to come out.

Still, Alan Moore is a comics god. I was hooked on the direction he took Swamp Thing and have a well-worn, well-loved copy of The Watchmen. I was wondering, in fact, why your smiley didn't have the blood on it as it did in that book.

I am such a geek.

i love this interview idea, but, umm, you actually talk to people on the phone? or is this some instant-message thing that i'm going to have to load and further destabilize my computer (and soon after, my life)? anyhow, interview me, i have nothing to hide...

I actually will be emailing the questions to you. You post them in your site. Trackback to me if you don't mind, I would love to read your answers.

Hi, Alicia,

Is it too late to ask for an interview? This sounds like a lot of fun, and after the morning I've had here at the box factory, I could use a little fun.

Posted by: Bakerina at Jan 23, 2004 11:16:07 AM

Hi Alicia,
Hope you're feeling better. I want to be interviewed. Can I interview you too? (fun!)
Shimmies,
Nasreena

I'm always game to be interviewed. I like answering questions.

Posted by: Lori at Jan 23, 2004 7:12:18 PM

Did everyone who asked for interviews get an email from me with the questions? Let me know if you didn't.

Posted by: Alicia at Jan 23, 2004 10:22:08 PM

...because I didn't like watchmen *duck and cover*...v for vendetta - yay!!!...am loving top ten and smax...heck, I even liked moore's spawn stuff :^)...but watchmen left me cold - sorry...and my smiley was a happy smiley because someone I know after 3 long, arduous, tear-filled years has just had a scan - and there is a 12 week old foetus inside her and I am very, very, very happy (and a watchmen smiley might have been a bit tasteless)...

Posted by: billy at Jan 24, 2004 8:31:07 AM

well that's okay then, no bloody smileys. That would have been in poor taste :) I am glad she has a healthy baby! And, well, Watchmen wasn't in everyone's taste. It was one of my first introductions to adult comics. Real literature as opposed to crap adult comics that are an excuse to draw women in clothes they never would have worn for the jobs they were doing. Not that that was terribly bad, but the Watchmen just open something up for me. Guess I'm sentimental :) have a wonderful weekend!
