Yes! Yes! I am. It has taken years and that wasn't always the answer, but, thankfully it is now.

My emotional state is a bobbing cork on the rising and falling chemical tides in my brain. Contentment? It will pass, and rise again, and fall.
Thinking back, I know that I was reasonbly contented during some period because it is just an amber-colored blur in my memory. Bad times are acid-etched in sharp relief, every jagged detail clear and shiny.

I have heard that we remember bad times or trauma (when we don't block it from our memories) more vividly because our adrenaline levels spike, and the higher adrenaline level causes that picture to develop a little clearer.

I saw some real pictures of myself from my early childhood and from high school today, and I was beaming my smile was so broad (in the photos). I remember being so happy and now, lately, I just muster contentment. I want to know what happened and how I get back there. Or can I?

The last time I was really happy? That's easy: the last time I held my granddaughter.

The next time I'll be really happy will be no later than the next time I hold her!
