a little bird humor
I just got an email from a friend of mine, and I have to share it. She said it was ok. :)
So I'm in the LOVELY Dallas Aquarium yesterday, admiring the slightly
odiferous penguins when I hear a father giving a lesson to his
charmingly loud children:
"Do you know what makes peguins so special?" Papa asks
"NO!" scream his kids
"They can do three things no other animal can do" he hints.
"What!?" yell the kids
"They are the only birds that can swim, fly and walk!" he proudly explains.
Opus, my love, your christmas wish has apperently been granted.....

Maybe he knows something we all don't. Or maybe Dallas aquarium has been secretly breeding flying pengiuns. :)

Heh. Well, I guess they do look like they're flying when they're underwater.

Also, I believe ducks (and various other sorts of aquatic birds) can do all three, including swimming underwater. Here are actual photos of a flying penguin:

And, as I ponder further, I wonder if there really are birds that (as a species) cannot walk. Hmmm.
