Bears are great, I'm quite afraid of them (healthy respect?) but fascinated by them. A great spirit guide to have, Alicia, good for you. (I did the quiz and my guide was the hummingbird ---huh?)
Did you see the National Geographic issue with man who finds and raises orphaned bear cubs? I Googled for you and found this:

(if the link doesn't print, just Google 'Mother Bear Man, National Geographic'.

I hadn't read about him in NG, but I did listen to an interview with him on NPR, as I recall. He took the reporter out into the woods where his bears live. He has amazing rapport with them, if it is the same guy.

I have always been fond of bears. I wanted to be a doctor when I was in college, and I studied herbalism. When I was introduced to the concept of totem animals in the Native American spirituality and was attracted to Grandmother Bear, I found out She was the first doctor (according to Native American legend) and is the master herbalist. That fascinated me. I also like to use that to explain why I gain weight before the coldest part of winter and want to sleep a lot. :)
