my new hobby
Well, my mother did it. She bought me knitting needles and some yarn for Christmas. Then she bought me some more. With a gift certificate from my dad to Barnes & Noble, I got The Idiot's Guide to Knitting and Crocheting and the ever popular Stitch 'N Bitch. I have caught the knitting bug, I love it. I finally understand what all of you are talking about when you can't put down your latest project. I'll just be glad to get through my first scarf or potholder. :)

I listened to a story on NPR a while back about a group of young gals that goes to bars, drinks, and knits. I've thought about trying to knit, mostly because I've had trouble finding a nice scarf to wear when I'm out. Plus I could probably use two, one for work, and one for leisure time.

The young girls who knit in bars are likely members of Stitch 'N Bitch clubs around the country. That is what my book seems to say.
Joe, I think you should take up the needles and make yourself a fantastic scarf. I have always wanted to make myself a Dr. Who scarf, a la Tom Baker. Anyway, men should knit! It isn't just for women anymore!

oooooh, welcome to the club! I've been crocheting since I was 6, but I just started knitting about 5 months ago, and I'm completely obsessed. I've already knitted in a bar, so I think I've earned my stripes. Just holler if you need any patterns. And you can see some of my recently-finished stuff at my crafty blog:

Oh and holy crap! I have a pattern for the Dr. Who scarf! It's in the book "The Knit Stitch" by Sally Melville.
