maybe if we paint the headphones black...

What is the music player of choice for 80% of the employees at Microsoft's Redmond, Washington headquarters that listen to portable music players? According to Wired it's....

iPods.

80% of the employees have portable music players, and of that 80%, 80% listen to their beloved iPods, albeit stealthily in many instances. Upper management is none too happy. Some employees can get away with it easily, such as those who work in the Macintosh Business Unit, where software is created for Macs. I wonder if they will call it Macrosoft....and if Gates would note the irony. Those who work in the Windows Digital Media Group aren't so lucky. Upper management is nervous enough to be sending out memos about the use of iPods and wondering why their own employees won't use Microsoft portable music players.

I have to laugh. I wonder if this will spawn a new accessory, the iStealth.

let me let you in on a secret: there are no microsoft employees. i know this for a fact. the redmond campus is just a huge stage set with hired extras. the software all comes from this little machine in billy's basement, no-one knows how it does it, it just keeps spitting out versions of windows every 18 months, it makes everyone real happy, it seems to hum sweetly to itself although re that i can't say for sure.

As long as what it is humming isn't "Sadie, Sadie" then I am mostly okay with that. :)

I like the idea of Microsoft being run by Oompa-Loompas. Not run by them, but serviced by them, as it is a machine that needs tending. Like the chocolate factory. Especially in that creepy way that the Oompa-Loompas have. Brrrrr. Suddenly it all makes sense.
