RIP Peter Jennings 1938-2005
Anchorman Peter Jennings has died tonight. He had lung cancer.
He is younger than my parents. It gives me great pause.
Also I found notice of the death of Shana Alexander, of 60 Minutes fame. She was 79.

I was a big fan of Peter, he was my evening news anchor of choice, I will miss him. This makes me think about how much I'd like my Mom to stop smoking.

Peter will surely be missed. I stopped watching the nightly news years ago when I began working nights, but Jennings was always my choice for anchor. It's a real loss.

We have a guy who in a local news anchor and he's incredible. His name is Tim Ryan and he's on the Channel 4 news. He will often question news stories so that we as viewers think. For instance, there was a news story his co-anchor was reading about a study on moderate drinkers. At the end of the report Tim asks what does the study consider a "moderate" drinker. As she looked over the report his co-anchor was surprised to say it was males having an average of 4 drinks per day, women having 2 per day. She thought that was awfully high. Tim mentions that by that rule he could skip drinks for 2 days and have 12 on the third day. Tim then points out that the study was done in Australia, where 4 beers a day is really not much and that we really need to take into consideration where these studies are done, where these stories come frome, to question such things.
He's great that way.
